The project, \u201cReframing History,\u201d placed murals on public walls and in open spaces in the towns, at the sites where the photographs were originally made.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"part1\">Theatrical artwork<\/h2>\n<p>The pictorial motifs contained in the paintings at the Theatermuseum refer to the world of the theatre. Around six hundred portraits, character and scene pictures done in various techniques bear witness to the fascination that theatre has exercised over such visual artists as Alfred Hrdlicka and Anton Kolig.In contrast to the collection of hand sketches, which contains primarily stage and costume designs, only a few of these pictures were conceived as part of a specific theatre production. The lion\u2019s share serves first and foremost to commemorate famous artistic personalities and their roles.<\/p>\n<p>Live theater offers a real-time, shared experience between performers and the audience. Sometimes the appeal is strongly intellectual, as in William Shakespeare\u2019s Hamlet, but the intellectual element in itself is no assurance of good theatre. A good performance of Hamlet, for example, is extremely difficult to achieve, and a poor one is much less rewarding than a brilliant presentation of a farce. Moreover, a good Hamlet makes demands on the spectator that may be greater than what that spectator is prepared to put forward, while the farce may be enjoyed in a condition of comparative relaxation. The full participation of the spectator is a vital element in theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Technology has influenced theater through innovations in set design, lighting, and multimedia integration.
